Juniata Computer's Commitment to Sustainability
On February 25th, 2008, Juniata Computer annouced its intent to promote a new sustainability
program unmatched by any of its competitors in the area. This program would promote
sustainability and reduce the impacts of its products and services on the environment.
Two programs were annouced - one involving their new laptop initiative and the second
involving their new paperless billing promise.
Sustainability Through Our Laptop Purchase Program
Juniata Computer recently announced its intention to provide a laptop purchase
program for incoming college students at Juniata College as a “preferred vendor” for the institution.
Six pre-configured systems will be offered for students to purchase, and those systems will be preinstalled
with all of the programs they will need for the Juniata College network. Juniata Computer has
also promised that for every computer purchased through their laptop purchase program,
money will be donated to non-profit organizations like “The Conservation Fund” and
“Carbonfund.org” to help facilitate the purchasing and planting trees to offset the
carbon dioxide emissions generated to power each new system. Juniata Computer anticipates
the laptop program to grow over the next two years, and with that growth, the organization
plans to promote its sustainability program to new institutions and organizations.

Sustainability Through New Billing Practices
Juniata Computer has also announced its plans to move to a completely paperless billing system for its
customers. Instead of printing paper proposals and invoices for each customer, e-mails with all
of this information in PDF format will be provided to customers for review. Furthermore,
if any invoices are provided to the business in paper format, this paperwork will be scanned
into a computer system and the paper will be recycled at the nearest recycling facility.
We are doing our part to ensure we are not using paper unnecessarily. We encourage our
customers provide and accept these paperless billing statements, and we hope that our creditors
and service providers will provide the same for us.
Future Sustainability Plans
Juniata Computer plans to expand its sustainability program to include other recyclable products
by the summer of 2008. The business is currently investigating the licenses and paperwork
it would need to be a collection center for ink cartridges, batteries, and whole computer
systems. The organization also had plans to start offering a local pickup program for
all of these recyclable goods by the end of the calendar year.
